Friendster - Way back then, even my friendster account, I have a public account (which is full), I accept every friend requests and only shares certain information like schools. And another one, my private account which is only limited for closest friends and for the people I know.
Blogger - Sometimes, I’m really surprised when a friend tells me, “hey I saw your blog” Because this blog is just a hint, no one will ever read this unless I shared a link on my fb wall. I signed up for blogger just because sometimes when I feel like writing and announce something to myself. Haha (whatever that means) Though it reveals another side of me, it isn’t meant to be read by many. It’s just the way I like it.
Facebook - I accept every friend requests in facebook, but it’s all segregated into lists according to where I met. Only certain people can view the chosen information I want to share. I eventually delete post by friends or comments that is too revealing. And I refuse to upload lots of pictures with friends in fb except for some profile photos I handpicked carefully, I don’t even make a list of family members. I just love the privacy settings of facebook.Multiply - multiply is my photo storage site. I don’t upload events pictures of my life in facebook, all of my photo albums are in multiply – which can be viewed by public. Because multiply has a less chances to be viewed - that’s what I always aim. I barely want my pictures with friends to be commented. Just like my blog it’s not meant to be seen by many. Unless to those who browse tentatively with purpose.
Twitter – I’ve signed up when a close friend told me to, but I’m glad I’m not hooked into this another arising social network site. It’s too tempting to spill out privacy. I just hope facebook is enough where you don’t have a choice but to leave it activated, because you have no choice, even important school announcements are there! Now I’m thinking, why am I so sensitive about personal information, I have nothing bad to hide, really, it’s just I noticed I’ve acquired defensive privacy concerns even when I was still young; since social network sites is just starting.
On the other hand, I talk to strangers and tell stories, I accommodate some people I barely know out of my boredom and I reply to unregistered numbers on my phone, and sometimes meet them! Not bad for a chance to have additional friends, right? I can say I had earned good friends and still friends until now! just by that.
I just can’t deal with too much online publicity. Anyone can make a BETTER image of oneself out of it, I don’t want that for myself, even for better or not. Even if I upload every pictures in facebook and post all blog entries on fb notes instead in blogger, it isn’t enough to know someone entirely and truly. Everything I share, I still wanted it to be under my control - which is only meant by those I “physically” or personally know.
